Meet Birmingham's Undefeated Boxer Oscar McCracken, Also a Qualified Lawyer
Undefeated Birmingham Boxer Oscar McCracken Is Also a Lawyer

Meet the undefeated Birmingham boxer who is also a qualified lawyer. Oscar McCracken, at 27 years old, boasts a perfect 5-0 record as a welterweight and has recently qualified as a corporate and commercial solicitor. Known as 'De La Lawyer,' he is set to fight on May 30 at Wembley Arena.

A Unique Path to Boxing and Law

Achieving a first-class law degree from the University of Worcester, Oscar began a training contract with MFG Solicitors and qualified in March. He revealed that his move into law was a 'left-field' decision prompted by his father, Spencer McCracken, a former boxer and trainer. Spencer initially discouraged Oscar from boxing, advising him to have a backup plan. Oscar took this advice seriously, applying to study law at university despite having no prior experience in the subject.

Oscar explained: 'My dad didn't want me to box. He had a hard career and wanted me to have options. I discussed it with my mom, and she said to do a degree worth doing. I thought it would be impressive if I could pull off a law degree, and thankfully I worked hard.'

Training and Family Legacy

After a day at work, Oscar swaps his suit for sparring sessions at McCracken's Gym in Yardley, a partnership between his father Spencer, rapper Jaykae, and Spencer McCracken Jr. The gym allows Oscar to train whenever he wants. Recently becoming a father, Oscar expressed mixed feelings about his son potentially following the family boxing tradition. 'I hope not. I couldn't do what my dad does. But if he wants to box, I'll be honest about the hard work involved.'

Oscar emphasized that boxing is not glamorous: 'It's not big nights with huge cheques. There's selling tickets, dealing with sponsors, politics, and promoters.'

Balancing Two Careers

Oscar has no plans to quit either career. 'I intend to prove that you can do two careers simultaneously with a good team and support. I'm not boxing for money or fame, but because I didn't want to regret not trying. I love the sport and am dedicated to seeing how far I can go.'

Oscar McCracken's next fight is on Saturday, May 30, at Wembley Arena. For ticket information, visit the official website.
