A father from Killamarsh is taking on an extraordinary endurance challenge this summer, running seven marathons in seven days through Sheffield parks to raise funds for charities supporting his daughter during cancer treatment.
The Challenge
Bradley Ashman, 31, is running more than 180 miles in total to support Young Lives vs Cancer, The Brain Tumour Charity, and Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The challenge was inspired by his daughter Freya’s diagnosis in 2025, when she was found to have a large brain tumour. She underwent emergency surgery within days of diagnosis, followed by ongoing treatment.
Giving Back
Bradley is now aiming to give back to the organisations that have supported his family throughout her journey. He said the timing of the challenge is especially meaningful, with key dates in June marking both Freya’s diagnosis and Father’s Day.
He added: “The team at Young Lives vs Cancer have been outstanding… from checking in, to advice, grants, short breaks, and simply being at the end of the phone when we’ve had questions.”
Charity Impact
Young Lives vs Cancer provides specialist social workers from diagnosis, alongside free accommodation near hospitals and financial grants to help families manage the costs of cancer treatment. Across Yorkshire and the Humber last year, the charity supported over 540 young people and families and provided 251 financial grants worth £42,491 to help with travel, food and other essential costs.
Krissa Ford, Young Lives vs Cancer fundraising engagement manager, said: “From the moment of diagnosis, Young Lives vs Cancer’s specialist social workers provide vital day-to-day support for each child, young person and family.”
She added that community support for Bradley’s challenge will help the charity continue delivering this essential care. To support this wonderful cause, you can visit the online fundraising page.
