A teenage boy is in hospital with serious injuries after a machete attack in Dudley, prompting a police manhunt for the alleged attackers. The 16-year-old victim was slashed at around 2pm on Saturday while walking on Duncan Edwards Close in Dudley. Police reported that violence broke out in the area.
According to investigators, the victim was approached by two young men on a moped who attacked him before fleeing the scene. The boy sustained serious injuries to his chest and face and was rushed to hospital, where he underwent surgery. West Midlands Police have launched a full investigation, examining CCTV and mobile phone footage, and are appealing to the public for any information.
Police Appeal for Information
Detective Inspector Joe Davenport, from the Major Crime Unit, described the attack as horrific and stated that the victim could easily have lost his life. He said: "This was an horrific attack in the middle of the day and it could easily have resulted in this boy losing his life. We've been working tirelessly since then to understand exactly what happened, and who was responsible, and I'd urge anyone with information to get in touch with as soon as possible."
West Midlands Police confirmed the teenager remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital. A police statement read: "We're appealing for the public's help after a teenager was left seriously injured when violence broke out involving a group of people with machetes in Dudley. The 16-year-old was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition today after violence broke out just before 2pm yesterday (Saturday) on Duncan Edwards Close. It's believed he had been walking in the area when he was approached by two young men on a moped. They attacked him before fleeing. He was left with serious injuries to his chest and face, and has undergone surgery. We've recovered CCTV and mobile phone footage, and are now asking for help from the public to help us identify and arrest those involved."
Extra Patrols in Area
The statement further noted that extra patrols are taking place in the area. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
