E-ACT North Birmingham Academy in Erdington has become the only secondary school in Birmingham to earn a rare 'exceptional' rating from Ofsted under the new inspection system. The accolade was awarded for the school's outstanding attendance rates, which have been sustained over time.
Trailblazing Attendance Strategies
Ofsted inspectors praised the academy's "trailblazing" strategies for keeping pupils in class. Attendance at the school is very high compared with the national average for all pupils. The school has maintained these exceptional standards of attendance over time, a feat particularly impressive given its location in inner-city Erdington, close to some of the city's most deprived areas.
Excellent Behaviour Standards
The school also received high praise for its excellent behaviour standards. According to the Ofsted report, suspensions are very low and bullying is rare. The new inspection system grades schools across multiple areas rather than giving a single overall grade, providing parents with a fuller picture of school performance.
Only a handful of schools in the region have earned an 'exceptional' tag since the new grades were launched this year. The achievement underscores the academy's commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.
