Volkswagen has been named the best electric car brand for 2026 by Which?, with Tesla failing to make the top five. The consumer watchdog's shortlist also included Renault, Kia, Mini, and Volvo.
Volkswagen Tops Rankings
Which? praised Volkswagen's entire EV range, noting that most models achieved Best Buy status in rigorous lab tests. The brand is unique in offering electric vehicles across multiple classes, including medium, large, large estate, medium/large SUV, and MPV categories.
"Our tests, with more than 200 checks, are combined with our annual survey, completed by tens of thousands of car owners, to provide valuable information on reliability and customer satisfaction," a Which? spokesperson said. "Volkswagen achieved a four-star customer rating in our survey, which is a great result."
New ID.Polo GTI Launched
This month, Volkswagen launched its first electric car to wear the iconic GTI badge: the ID.Polo GTI. Based on the new ID.Polo, the GTI continues a legacy stretching back to the original Golf GTI in the 1970s.
The battery-powered model features performance enhancements, including a front-wheel-drive setup with a standard front differential lock for improved cornering. Adaptive sports suspension and a bespoke steering setup are also standard.
Inside, the ID.Polo GTI offers a digital cockpit capable of displaying retro graphics mimicking the dials of the first-generation Golf. A 12.9-inch infotainment system handles media and navigation.
Volkswagen has not confirmed UK pricing but stated the car will cost €39,000 in Germany, approximately £33,950.
