Octopus Energy has surpassed 8 million customers in the UK, announcing the milestone on Friday, April 24. The energy supplier now serves over eight million households, with 2,500 new customers switching to Octopus every day. This growth has widened the gap since Octopus claimed the top market position in January 2025, the first change in market leadership since privatisation in 1986.
Surge in Low-Carbon Technology
The expansion coincides with a national shift toward low-carbon technology. Since the onset of recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, Octopus has reported a 103% increase in heat pump sales and a 78% rise in solar panel sales. According to the company, households are turning to homegrown power and electrification to shield themselves from global fossil fuel shocks.
Trust and Customer Satisfaction
Octopus’s trust ratings are more than 50% higher than industry rivals, according to a YouGov survey conducted last month. The supplier has consistently maintained a 5-star Trustpilot rating and is the only energy firm to be a Which? Recommended Provider for nine consecutive years.
