UK Music Technology Firm Cosmic Ears Enters Administration

Cosmic Ears Ltd, a prominent UK-based professional audio manufacturer specialising in custom in-ear monitors (IEMs), has collapsed into administration after operating for 11 years. The company formally entered administration on February 3, with the appointment of joint administrators confirmed on February 12 following proceedings in the High Court of Justice, Business and Property Court in Manchester, as reported by The Gazette's Data Service.

Client Base Included Major Pop Stars

The firm supplied custom monitors to a roster of established performers, including Bernard Sumner of New Order, and provided equipment for engineers and production crews working on large-scale arena and stadium tours. Among its notable clients were Tyla, Tom Misch, Jessie J, Rag'n'Bone Man, Dizzee Rascal, Little Simz, Jacob Collier, and members of Arctic Monkeys.

Founder's Expertise and Company History

Founded by Philip Gartell, Cosmic Ears applied expertise in signal processing and electronics to design custom monitors, developing what the company described as its signature "British Sound." Despite facing several compulsory strike-off notices from Companies House between 2019 and 2024, the company managed to suspend or discontinue these actions each time, with annual confirmation statements and accounts submitted during that period.

Recent Recognition and Product Success

One of its products, the C8A model, was voted "Best CIEM of 2025" by Headfonia. In a social media post reacting to the award, the company expressed pride, stating: "It goes without saying we are super proud of our now flagship model, which is also our best selling in-ear monitor (followed very closely by our C6A and C6R models)."

The collapse marks a significant development in the UK music technology sector, highlighting challenges faced by niche audio manufacturers despite industry acclaim and a high-profile clientele.
