UK's Largest Car Park Operator NCP Faces Administration, Hundreds of Jobs at Risk

National Car Parks (NCP), the United Kingdom's biggest car park giant, is teetering on the edge of collapse, with hundreds of jobs now at serious risk. The operator, which runs approximately 300 car parks across the nation, has taken a critical step towards potential administration.

Notice of Intention to Appoint Administrators Filed

The car park company, employing around 700 people, filed a Notice of Intention to Appoint Administrators for its UK business on Monday, March 16, 2026. This legal move signals severe financial distress and could be the first step in entering administration. PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) is reportedly lined up to handle the potential insolvency process if it proceeds.

Ownership and Financial Background

Since August 2017, NCP has been owned by Park24, a listed Japanese company based in Tokyo. Park24 is a major global parking operator with an astonishing 1,043,570 spaces across over 19,000 sites in eight countries. Prior to Park24's acquisition, NCP was successfully managed by the Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund 2 for a decade.

DBJ, a co-investor alongside Park24, is a Japanese government-owned financial institution known as a sophisticated private equity investor with a strong track record in infrastructure finance. Despite this backing, NCP's UK operations are now in jeopardy.

NCP's Operations and Customer Service

NCP describes itself as having a "huge estate throughout the entirety of the UK, which allows our customers a fantastic amount of choice when it comes to finding their parking solution." The company's website states it currently operates over 200,000 parking spaces in more than 800 sites.

The firm emphasizes its commitment to customer service, noting: "Our colleagues are professional and helpful. They really care about delivering great customer service. Customer care is at the forefront of what we do, reflected with our 24/7 Customer Contact Centre."

Additionally, NCP promotes its digital offerings, including the NCP App, which "allows customers a seamless journey from start to finish. The NCP App combines your daily parking along with Season Ticket access in one convenient place." The company offers a wide range of season tickets, including Flexible Business Parking, Corporate Season Tickets, and 3-Day Season Tickets.

The potential collapse of NCP could significantly impact the UK's parking infrastructure and leave hundreds of employees facing unemployment, marking a troubling development in the business sector.
