Rodmatic Ltd Engineering Firm Enters Liquidation After Over 50 Years
Rodmatic Ltd, a well-established engineering company based in Reading, Berkshire, has collapsed into liquidation after more than half a century in business. The firm, known for manufacturing specialist fasteners and screw machine products, resolved to wind up its operations following a general meeting held in February.
Joint Administrators Appointed to Oversee Liquidation Process
Margaret Carter and David Griffiths of bk plus Limited have been appointed as joint administrators to manage the liquidation process. This move marks the end of Rodmatic's long-standing presence in the engineering sector, where it served industries such as fluid power, medical, and specialist automotive.
The company's mission statement highlighted its adaptability, stating: "At Rodmatic, we have more than half a century's experience of working with machining technology to serve various sectors. Our ability to adapt to developments has been the main factor in our continued success." However, despite this claim, the firm has now ceased operations.
Context of Recent Business Failures in the Region
This collapse follows another recent business failure in the area, with Parlour Farm Kitchen, based in the Cotswolds, also going bust after over 20 years of installing kitchens. One client reported losing nearly £20,000, detailing issues with communication and payment disputes. The customer explained that after retracting an order due to delays, they were informed the company had not received the request properly, and legal advice indicated little recourse due to the liquidation.
The customer expressed frustration, noting: "The cheeky thing is the law allows the company to change its name and carry on trading. It would make me sick to see the premises with the bits of furniture which I have paid for." This case underscores the challenges faced by consumers when businesses enter liquidation.
The liquidation of Rodmatic Ltd represents a significant loss in the engineering manufacturing landscape, highlighting the ongoing pressures within the sector. The appointment of administrators aims to ensure an orderly wind-down of the company's affairs, but it leaves a void after decades of service.
