West Brom to Back New Boss Morrison with Improved Finances
West Brom to Back Morrison with Improved Finances

West Bromwich Albion executive director Mark Miles has confirmed that the club's financial outlook will improve from this summer, as they pledge full support for newly-appointed head coach James Morrison.

Financial Recovery and Squad Building

The Baggies survived relegation from the Championship despite an English Football League sanction for a profit and sustainability (P&S) breach. The decision on whether to appeal a points deduction remains pending. However, with the rolling three-year financial cycle progressing, Albion view their forecast as much healthier for the summer leading into the 2026/27 season.

Miles stated: "From James' point of view, he has unanimously got our support all the way through. Clearly we've got a season of change with bringing in players, and the great thing about Mozza's appointment now is we can start with that and start working it through."

Contract Decisions and Recruitment

Albion have several players out of contract, and discussions about their futures will continue through the process. Despite the P&S sanction, the club has a solid foundation to back and recruit players for a competitive season ahead. "We can obviously back and recruit players so we can have a competitive season next year," Miles added.

The club was found guilty of breaching the EFL's loss limit of £39.5 million over three years by less than £2 million, but maintains its innocence. The Baggies aim to improve significantly and challenge at the top of the table next term.

Positive Outlook for the Future

Miles, who returned in February after five months away, emphasized the club's improved financial position: "We're through the worst and we're moving to an improved financial position from a P&S perspective now. Clearly we will make our best efforts to make the squad as competitive as possible, and our backing will be there for the right players."

Reflecting on the season, Miles said: "It's been a test on and off the field, but certainly the way we finished the season under James, we are pleased to get where we are. We have to look forward now, and we're really pleased to have James here as head coach. The future is bright, and we can start the preparation now."

He concluded: "This is a great club and really important to me and James. Over the last couple of months, we've seen the importance of togetherness. James and the staff have managed to galvanise a whole club and got out of a tricky situation."
