DWP confirms £150 bonus for ESA and JSA claimants

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed a £150 boost for households claiming Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA). The support scheme has been expanded to help millions more households this winter.

Expanded eligibility for Warm Home Discount

Around six million households will receive the one-off payment, which is part of the Warm Home Discount (WHD) scheme. Previously, only certain benefit recipients qualified, but the Labour government has extended the scheme to include more low-income families. All households on Universal Credit will also qualify for the discount.

The £150 payment is applied directly to energy bills between November and the end of January. Energy suppliers will credit the amount to customers' accounts or provide a top-up voucher, depending on how they pay their bills.

Extra support for pensioners

Some of the worst-off pensioners also receive the WHD each winter. Ministers say the new approach is fairer as it targets more low-income households, delivering crucial savings during an expensive time of year.
