DWP Expands Benefit to 92 More Health Conditions

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has expanded the list of health conditions qualifying for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) by adding 92 new conditions, bringing the total to 177. This update reflects the range of medical issues experienced by current PIP recipients.

What Is PIP?

PIP is a benefit that replaces Disability Living Allowance for individuals with long-term physical or mental health conditions. It is designed to help with the extra costs of living with a disability.

Payment Rates for 2026-27

The enhanced daily living component increases from £110.40 to £114.60 per week, while the standard daily living component rises from £73.90 to £76.70. For mobility, the enhanced rate goes from £77.05 to £80.00, and the standard rate from £29.20 to £30.30. Those receiving both enhanced rates can get up to £194.60 per week.

The enhanced mobility rate also offers the option of a Motability vehicle instead of cash.

Additional Benefits

PIP is paid on top of most other benefits and may entitle recipients to extra premiums or exemptions from the benefit cap. The amount awarded depends on the points scored in assessments for daily living and mobility components.
