Tesco Clubcard Holders Urged to Check Accounts Before £17m Expires
Tesco Clubcard Holders: Check Accounts Before £17m Expires

Tesco shoppers have been urged to check their Clubcard accounts before £17 million worth of vouchers expire, according to Martin Lewis' MoneySavingExpert.com. The deadline is May 31, when hundreds of vouchers will automatically expire at 11.59pm.

How to Check Your Vouchers

If you have paper vouchers, check the expiry date on the voucher itself. If you have lost them or are unsure, you can check online via the Tesco Clubcard website or the Tesco app.

To check online, go to the Tesco Clubcard website, select 'Clubcard account', then 'Vouchers'. You will need to be registered for a Tesco.com account and know your Clubcard number, which appears on physical cards, digital wallets, and key fobs. A table will display your available vouchers and their expiry dates.

On the Tesco app, open it, go to 'Clubcard', then to 'Vouchers'. The app is free to download from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

How to Extend Voucher Expiry Dates

MoneySavingExpert.com suggests a trick to extend expiry dates by two years. Make a small purchase on the Tesco Clubcard Rewards page (not in-store) or donate to a partner charity. The remaining balance will be credited back to your account. For example, spending 50p of a £5 voucher will return £4.50. You can then swap points for new vouchers with a two-year expiry.

There is no minimum spend, but aim to spend as little as possible. A 50p restaurant voucher (worth up to £1.50) is a good option. Note that Tesco may refuse this if they suspect gaming the system, but MoneySavingExpert tested it successfully.

You must do this for each voucher individually, so weigh up the effort for smaller denominations. A £10 voucher may be worth it, but a handful of £1 vouchers may not.
