Two popular holiday parks in Devon are set for a significant transformation, with a combined investment of £1.3 million announced for winter upgrade works. The substantial refurbishment programme aims to enhance guest experiences ahead of the crucial summer 2026 season.
Substantial Investment in Family-Owned Parks
The Carter family, who have owned Ladram Bay Holiday Park near Otterton since 1943 and its sister site Castle Brake for nearly twenty years, are funding the improvements. A total of £1 million is being poured into Ladram Bay, with a further £300,000 allocated for developments at Castle Brake, located nine miles away.
Zoe House, a family member and director of Ladram Bay, emphasised the long-term vision behind the spending. "We are incredibly proud to be investing in both Ladram Bay and Castle Brake this winter," she said. "Our commitment to improvement is at the heart of our family-owned values and reflects our long-term dedication to providing great value holidays for generations to come."
Key Upgrades at Ladram Bay Holiday Park
The majority of the investment will see a host of enhancements at the flagship Ladram Bay site. The most notable addition is 13 new three-bedroom holiday homes, which are being manufactured by UK-based static caravan specialist ABI UK.
Substantial work will also be carried out on guest facilities, including a full refurbishment of the communal women's restrooms and showers. The park's popular pirate ship play structure, the ‘NaNa of Ladram’, is undergoing a complete rebuild to ensure it remains a centrepiece for children's outdoor fun.
Further visitor experience improvements include the installation of new outdoor furniture and the addition of speakers outside the popular Pebbles restaurant. The restaurant is also set to receive new silent disco equipment, offering alternative entertainment options.
New Development at Sister Park Castle Brake
At Castle Brake, the £300,000 investment will fund a brand-new pitch development project. This involves transforming an existing touring field into a premium static caravan area. The project will create a fully serviced environment featuring:
- New roads and hard-standing bases
- Essential service connections
- Comprehensive landscaping
- A mix of two- and three-bedroom static caravans
- Two new holiday lodges
Looking Ahead to the Summer Season
All upgrade works are being carefully scheduled during the parks' winter closure period to minimise disruption. Both Ladram Bay and Castle Brake are scheduled to reopen to the public on Friday, March 6, 2026, fully refreshed and ready for the new season.
Ms House added that the investment was crucial for meeting modern guest expectations. "Continued investment in our parks is essential to meet evolving guest expectations and to ensure our sites remain at the forefront of the UK holiday park sector," she stated.
This significant capital expenditure underscores the owners' confidence in the staycation market and their commitment to offering "memorable experiences" that encourage guests to return year after year.
