ACC Liverpool Unveils Major Upgrade Plans Including New Super Suite

Significant changes are on the horizon for ACC Liverpool, the prominent waterfront arena and convention centre, as new plans have been submitted to Liverpool Council. The proposals include the creation of a new "super suite" for VIP hospitality and the addition of more than 300 new seats within the existing arena bowl.

Enhancing Capacity and VIP Experience

According to documents released by the local authority, the upgrade aims to expand hospitality areas on both sides of the M&S Bank Arena. A key feature is the conversion of an existing bar into a premium VIP hospitality box, dubbed the "super suite." Additionally, a previously unused void space will be renovated into a back-of-house bar and cloakroom, while washroom areas on both sides will be remodelled to increase the number of toilet cubicles available.

Inside the arena bowl, proposed alterations involve the installation of 372 additional spectator seats through the reconfiguration of existing internal walkways. Accessible viewing bays will also be reconfigured, with new bays added to the D End of the arena. Existing storage rooms are set to be converted into multi-use spaces that can flex between storage and operational bar areas for events.

Historical Context and Recent Developments

ACC Liverpool opened its doors 18 years ago, coinciding with Liverpool's designation as the 2008 European Capital of Culture. Since then, it has hosted major events, including the Labour Party conference from 2022 onward and the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023 on behalf of Ukraine. The arena has an 11,000 capacity, while the convention centre holds around 1,300 people in its main hall.

In October last year, two further premium suites were installed at the venue to accommodate 12 guests each. The current plans do not propose changes to licensable activities or the sale of alcohol. An updated licence has already been issued, allowing performances and alcohol sales up to 11.59pm daily.

Next Steps and Public Input

A premises licence application has been lodged with Liverpool Council to amend the existing terms. Representations on the plans can be made via the Liverpool Council website until March 6. This upgrade follows a trend of continuous improvement at the venue, aiming to bolster its status as a premier destination for events and hospitality in the region.
