Birmingham's Picture & Pint: A 'Cheers'-Style Bar Where You Can Get a Passport Photo
Birmingham's Unique Photo Shop and Bar 'Like Cheers'

In the heart of a Birmingham neighbourhood, a local bar offers something truly unexpected alongside its pints: passport photograph services. Picture & Pint, an independent hybrid venue in Cotteridge, has been captivating residents since it opened in December 2024, establishing itself as one of the city's most distinctive social spots.

From Photo Shop to Community Hub

The brainchild of Bill Singh, who ran the Cotteridge Photo Co for over three decades, Picture & Pint fulfils a long-held ambition. After more than 30 years in photography, Singh decided to merge his expertise with his dream of owning a bar. The result is a venue that remains a fully functional place to purchase photographs and picture frames, while also serving as a warm and welcoming pub.

Singh admits the transition to hospitality has been a learning curve. "I've learned a lot over the past year," he told local media. "Hospitality is completely different to what I've done in the past. But this has gone exactly the way I wanted it to, and I'm still learning on the job." His dedication has paid off, creating a space he confidently claims is one of a kind. "I don't think there's another bar like this in England—I did check," he stated.

A Modern-Day 'Cheers' on Pershore Road

The atmosphere at 1894 Pershore Road, Cotteridge, B30 3AS, is frequently compared to the beloved television show Cheers. It's a setting where everybody knows your name. Regulars have their own seats, and the bar has fostered genuine friendships and community connections. "People have become mates meeting here and now go off on trips together," Singh shared, highlighting the social impact. "It's been great for the community."

One of Singh's favourite aspects is the simple joy of celebrating life's moments with his customers. "One of my favourite memories is just celebrating people's birthdays at the bar," he recalled, encapsulating the venue's friendly spirit.

Evolving Offerings: Music, Art, and More

Not content to stand still, Bill Singh is actively expanding the bar's cultural offerings. He has already introduced live music nights and has plans to add a local art gallery within the premises. This initiative will allow customers to browse and purchase artwork, further cementing Picture & Pint's role as a multifaceted community hub where creativity and socialising intertwine.

The success of Picture & Pint proves that innovation in the hospitality sector can stem from blending seemingly unrelated passions. By combining a professional photo shop with the timeless appeal of a local pub, Bill Singh has created a destination that is "unlike anything else" and a cherished asset for the people of Cotteridge and beyond.
