Blacklock Chophouse Announces Opening Date for Pigeon Park Location

After nearly a year of anticipation and unexpected delays, Blacklock Chophouse has finally revealed its official opening date for its new Birmingham restaurant. The establishment, which originated in a former London brothel, will open its doors on Monday, April 20, 2026, in the historic St Philip's House facing Birmingham Cathedral in Pigeon Park.

Delays and Renovations

The launch was initially planned for last year but faced setbacks due to the complex renovations required for the Victorian-era building. These challenges pushed the opening into 2026, much to the disappointment of eager locals and food enthusiasts. The restaurant will occupy the ground floor of St Philip's House, a seven-floor office building that had been vacant since 2017 before undergoing a significant overhaul.

What to Expect at Blacklock Chophouse

The 100-seat restaurant and bar will serve hearty, meat-focused dishes in a sharing-style format. The menu will feature generous portions of lamb, pork, and beef chops accompanied by flatbreads. Additionally, Sunday roasts cooked over coals will be a highlight, complete with duck fat roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, and all the traditional trimmings.

Blacklock will also offer its exclusive Blacklock Brews beer, created in collaboration with the Birmingham Brewing Company. The concept of 'say when' portion sizing for puddings adds a unique touch, allowing diners to control their dessert servings.

Founder's Excitement

Gordon Ker, the founder of Blacklock, expressed his enthusiasm about the new location. "We've long hoped to bring Blacklock to Birmingham and can't wait to be opening in such a beautiful and iconic building in the heart of the city," he said. "We're really looking forward to becoming part of the rich local community and building a restaurant, we hope, the city will take to its heart."

Location and Neighbors

St Philip's House is situated at St Philips Place, B3 2PP, in a prime position within Birmingham's city centre. The building was first converted to office space in 1982 and has now been transformed to accommodate this new dining venue. Blacklock joins other notable establishments in the area, such as Damascena, The Old Joint Stock, and the recently added Blank Street Coffee, all facing Cathedral Square.

The opening of Blacklock Chophouse marks a significant addition to Birmingham's culinary scene, bringing a unique dining experience to a historic setting. With its focus on communal feasts and local collaborations, the restaurant aims to become a beloved spot for both residents and visitors alike.
