Blacklock Chophouse Unveils Stunning Interior in Historic Birmingham Vicarage

A highly anticipated Birmingham restaurant, originally slated to open last autumn, has finally provided a first glimpse inside its beautifully restored venue. Blacklock has meticulously transformed the old vicarage on Pigeon Park, establishing a classic chophouse within St Philip's Place on Cathedral Square.

Impressive Views and Heritage Features

The restaurant boasts one of the most impressive views in Birmingham, with large windows overlooking the city centre's largest green space. This scenic vista currently includes the cathedral and a prominent big wheel, creating a picturesque backdrop for diners.

Inside, Blacklock has undertaken an extensive renovation of the previously derelict space, carefully preserving its heritage features. The team uncovered original decor within the Victorian residence and coordinated new paintwork and layout to complement these historical elements.

Cosy and Vintage-Inspired Design

The 100-seat venue features cosy old wooden panelling, vintage decorative touches, and warm, inviting lighting throughout. This design creates an atmosphere that blends traditional charm with contemporary comfort.

On Tuesday, April 7, Blacklock invited media representatives to tour the new venue and discuss the unique challenges of converting a space that had never previously functioned as a restaurant into a fully operational dining establishment.

Defining the Chophouse Experience

Gordon Ker, founder of Blacklock, explained the concept behind a chophouse. "A chophouse is a restaurant that generally sells meat on the bone," Gordon stated. "We serve chops of beef, pork, and lamb, but it's more than that—it's a traditional British restaurant."

He emphasized the restaurant's focus on conviviality, exceptional hospitality, and memorable dining experiences. "We serve the very best meat in the country and deliver it with a fun experience, super warm hospitality, and a positive bill shock at the end," Gordon added. "We want guests to receive their bill and think, 'Wow, that's incredible value for money—when can we do that again?'"

Opening Details and Menu Offerings

Blacklock officially opens on Monday, April 20, featuring a menu centered around sharing platters of premium meats, hearty sides, substantial Sunday roasts, and traditional puddings. The restaurant offers 'say when' portions, allowing diners to control their serving sizes.

The restaurant is located at 4 St Philips Place, Cathedral Square, B3 2PP, positioning it as a new culinary destination in Birmingham's historic centre.
