390-Year-Old West Midlands Pub Forced to Close After Golf Course Leak
Historic Wolverhampton Pub Shut by Water Leak

A historic West Midlands pub has been compelled to close its doors during the festive period due to an unexpected water issue originating from a neighbouring golf course.

Unexpected Closure for Historic Pub

The Barley Mow pub in Wolverhampton, which dates back an incredible 390 years, announced a temporary closure on 29th December 2025. The shutdown was caused by a complete loss of running water, a problem the pub's management says is frustratingly "out of our hands." The issue is believed to stem from a leak under the 18th hole green at the adjacent Penn Golf Club on Penn Common.

Frustration During Festive Period

The popular local business took to its Facebook page to inform loyal customers of the situation. In a statement, they explained that for essential hygiene and heating reasons, they were unable to open. The post described the cause as "oddly specific" and assured patrons that the team was working hard to get the issue fixed.

"We'll keep you updated and will be back as soon as it's resolved," the statement read, thanking the community for their understanding and adding that normal service would resume "just as soon as the ground stops misbehaving."

Ongoing Efforts and Community Support

As of the morning of 29th December, the pub at Pennwood Lane (WV4 5JN) remained closed. A further update confirmed staff were "still hard at work getting the water issue resolved, and doing everything we can to reopen as soon as possible."

The closure is a blow for a venue with a strong local following. The Barley Mow holds a Google review rating of 4.1, with one reviewer, Endry Grube, recently praising its "fantastic" food and "incredible" bar staff, giving a special mention to team members Amélie, Layton Williams, Kobie, and J dog for their "immaculate service."

The pub's management continues to post updates on social media as they navigate this operational setback, hoping to welcome back customers imminently.
