McDonald's restaurants across the United Kingdom are grappling with a shortage of bottled water, a key component of its children's Happy Meals, leaving many parents frustrated. The issue, which the fast-food giant confirms is a temporary supply problem, could last for several more days.
Customer Outrage Over Missing Happy Meal Water
Customers have taken to social media to express their bafflement and anger after being told they cannot order bottled water with their children's meals. Some feared the chain had implemented a "new policy" to ban water for kids, a rumour McDonald's has moved swiftly to quell.
One furious customer posted: "McDonaldsUK new policy NO WATER for children- disgraceful!" Another, referencing the Uttoxeter store, complained about being denied water on three consecutive visits, questioning why standard bottles in stock couldn't be substituted. "Poor service," they added.
Staff Confirm Widespread Supply Issue
Employees have corroborated the shortage, indicating it is not an isolated incident. One staff member revealed their store had been out of the small waters for around two weeks, with a manager suggesting it was a nationwide problem. Another worker simply stated: "No water at my store either."
A third employee pointed the finger at supplier issues, explaining: "Nestle are having supply issues. We have not had Happy Meal water for a few weeks, and the normal water is in a different pack size." The official McDonald's UK website currently carries a notice stating that Nestlé Pure Life water in 250ml and 500ml sizes is "Not available in all Restaurants".
McDonald's Official Response and Resolution
In response to the growing customer discontent, McDonald's UK has issued a clear statement to address the rumours and clarify the situation. A spokesperson confirmed the company is "currently experiencing a temporary supply issue", affecting stock of the 250ml bottled water normally included in Happy Meals.
The chain has outlined the alternatives being offered to customers:
- Tap water is available as an alternative.
- The usual other Happy Meal drink options remain on offer.
The company has apologised for any inconvenience and stated it is "working hard to resolve the issue". Crucially, they have given a timeframe for a return to normal service, confirming that the 250ml bottled water is expected to return to the Happy Meal menu later this week.
