A popular restaurant in the West Midlands has been forced to close its doors and appeal to the public for assistance after sustaining severe damage from Storm Goretti.
Restaurant Faces Uninsurable Storm Damage
The Bracebridge, located near Sutton Park in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, announced on Monday, 12 January 2026, that it would remain closed due to significant property damage inflicted by the storm. In a heartfelt social media update, the owners revealed a critical blow: the damage, particularly to their large stretch tent, has been deemed uninsurable and beyond repair.
The situation was compounded by council road closures caused by fallen trees, alongside persistent power and internet outages in the area. These factors meant the restaurant had to remain shut on Monday, with closures extending through Tuesday 13 January at a minimum.
A Community Call to Arms
Facing the hefty task of clearing and repairs without insurance support, the owners turned to their local community. In a Facebook statement, they expressed profound gratitude for the outpouring of support before making a direct appeal for practical help.
The post read: “For those who have offered help, thank you. If anyone is free and would like to lend a hand, we’ll be on site Tuesday 13th from 10am.” The owners promised to provide off-grid facilities to make coffee for any volunteers who come forward.
Hopeful Target for Reopening
Despite the setback, the team at The Bracebridge is working tirelessly towards a swift return. With the help of volunteers on Tuesday, they aim to begin the process of removing the destroyed tent and carrying out necessary repairs.
Their goal is to reopen on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, but this remains contingent on two key factors: the reopening of access roads by the council and the full restoration of power to the site. The restaurant's location is Sutton Park, Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield B74 2YR.
The owners signed off their message by acknowledging the community's role in lifting their spirits, stating: “Your kindness has truly helped make a very difficult situation that little bit easier.”
