A popular coffee and juice bar inside a major West Midlands shopping centre has been handed the worst possible score by food safety inspectors.
Zero Rating for Touchwood Store
The Joe & The Juice outlet located within the Touchwood shopping centre in Solihull was given a hygiene rating of zero, meaning 'urgent improvement necessary'. The inspection was carried out by the Food Standards Agency on 15 October 2025.
This score is the lowest available on the scale, which runs from 0 to 5. Any business scoring below a 3, which is classified as 'generally satisfactory', is considered to have failed the inspection.
How the Chain Compares Nationally
Despite Joe & The Juice operating more than 80 stores across the United Kingdom, the Solihull branch was the only one to receive the damning zero rating. The next poorest performer was a London store, which was rated a 2, indicating 'some improvement necessary'.
Inspectors assess several critical areas to determine a venue's hygiene rating. These include:
- The cleanliness and condition of facilities and building.
- How food is handled, stored, and prepared.
- Overall food safety management and procedures.
In Birmingham city centre, the Joe & The Juice branch at Grand Central holds a rating of 3, which is deemed satisfactory.
Company Responds with Confidence
Following the publication of the rating, a spokesperson for Joe & The Juice issued a statement addressing the findings.
"At Joe & The Juice, food safety and hygiene standards are taken extremely seriously," the representative said. "In this specific case, the issues identified during the inspection have been addressed, the store is now fully compliant and we are working closely with the local Environmental Health Officer."
The statement concluded with a note of assurance: "We are confident in the standards of this store and across our UK estate."
The Solihull store offers a menu of smoothies, juices, sandwiches, and breakfast bowls to shoppers visiting the Touchwood complex.
