Popular Italian wine bar chain Veeno has collapsed into administration for the second time, with its Midlands location currently remaining open and operational. The company, known for its authentic Italian wine offerings and family-oriented storytelling, is undergoing a strategic restructuring process aimed at refocusing the business on its original roots.
Strategic Restructuring Underway
In a statement provided to Newsquest, Veeno explained that the administration is part of a broader strategic reset designed to streamline operations and reinforce the core concept of the brand. The company emphasized that this move will allow it to place a stronger emphasis on what has always defined Veeno: authentic Italian wine, the family story behind the business, and a more personal, experience-led approach for guests.
The business continues to trade at this time, and there are no immediate plans for closures. Instead, the administration process is seen as an opportunity to build a stronger, more focused Veeno for the future, centred around quality, storytelling, and genuine connections with customers.
Administrators Appointed
According to official records published in the London Gazette, David Kemp and Richard Hunt of Exigen Group Limited have been appointed as administrators for Veeno Bars. Their role will involve overseeing the company's affairs during this transitional period.
However, if the company is unable to successfully manage its affairs under administration, all five of its remaining locations could be at risk of closure. This uncertainty adds a layer of concern for employees and patrons alike, particularly at the Midlands venue which remains a key part of the chain's footprint.
History of Financial Struggles
This is not the first time Veeno has faced financial difficulties. The business previously collapsed into administration back in 2019, at which time it was saved by entrepreneur Rodrigue Trouillet who bought out the company. The recurrence of administration highlights ongoing challenges within the competitive hospitality sector, especially for niche chains focusing on premium experiences like Italian wine bars.
The company's commitment to maintaining operations during this period suggests a determined effort to emerge from administration without significant disruption to its venues. By returning to its original roots and emphasizing authenticity, Veeno aims to create a sustainable model that can withstand market pressures while staying true to its origins.
As the situation develops, stakeholders will be closely watching how the administration process unfolds and whether Veeno can successfully navigate this second financial restructuring to secure a stable future for its Midlands location and other sites across the UK.
