Wetherspoon Announces Seven New Pub Openings Across the UK Before Summer

JD Wetherspoon has revealed ambitious plans to open seven new pubs across the United Kingdom, with all locations set to begin serving customers before the summer season arrives. This expansion adds to the chain's already extensive portfolio of over 800 establishments nationwide.

Four Pubs Opening Next Month

The first wave of openings will see four new Wetherspoon pubs launch in March. These include The Old Post Office in Bath opening on Tuesday, March 3, The Alfred Wainwright in Flookburgh on Tuesday, March 10, and both The Springfield in Blackpool and The Round Coppice in Fareham on Tuesday, March 31.

Three More Sites in April and May

Following the March openings, three additional pubs will debut in April and May. The Bluff Inn in Cornwall is scheduled to open on Tuesday, April 2, while Joe's Bar in Birmingham will welcome patrons on Tuesday, May 25. The final opening, The Sir Ronald Wates at the University of Surrey in Guildford, is set for May, though an exact date has not been specified.

First University-Owned Wetherspoon Pub

A notable highlight of this expansion is The Sir Ronald Wates, which will mark Wetherspoon's first pub owned by a university. Located on the University of Surrey's campus, this venue aims to provide affordable dining and social options for students and staff.

Will Davies, chief operating officer at the University of Surrey, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "We wanted to give our community a pub-style venue that could offer genuine value for money alongside quality. Wetherspoon's model means students can get a full breakfast for less than £5. The franchise gives us their pricing power and supply chain efficiency whilst allowing us to offer a great experience for our students and staff."

John Hutson, Wetherspoon's chief executive, added, "We are delighted that a Wetherspoon pub is to open at the University of Surrey. We are confident that it will prove popular with students as well as members of the public and be a great addition for the university."
