Marks & Spencer has announced a major upgrade to its Tamworth store car park, advising shoppers to allow extra time for their journeys during the 12-week project. The ambitious transformation aims to tackle peak-time congestion and significantly increase parking capacity.
Construction work officially began on Wednesday, May 27. The project will deliver 32 additional standard parking spaces, a boost to accessible bays, and a new two-way traffic flow system to streamline entry and exit points.
Key Improvements
- 32 extra standard parking spaces
- Disabled parking bays doubled to 20
- Parent-and-child spaces increased from 10 to 18
- New two-way traffic flow to reduce queuing
Phased Construction
To minimise disruption, the work will be completed in three phases. Certain sections of the car park will be temporarily closed, starting with the area near the M&S Foodhall. The entire project is scheduled for completion by mid-August.
An M&S spokesperson said on social media: "CAR PARK UPDATE – EXCITING IMPROVEMENTS COMING! Great news — we’ve listened to your feedback, and after many years of planning, work will begin this week to improve our car park!" The store added: "We appreciate your patience while these improvements are underway — it’ll be worth it for a smoother, easier experience when you visit us!"
What to Expect During the Works
- Project duration: Approximately 12 weeks
- Work completed in 3 stages
- Temporary closures of car park sections, starting with the Foods side
Shoppers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys during the initial phases of construction.
