Aldi Closes Daventry Store for New Supermarket Opening Next Week
Aldi closes Daventry store for new supermarket opening

Shoppers in Daventry are set for a supermarket switcheroo as Aldi prepares to close one branch and open another within a single day. The popular discount chain is upgrading its local presence, replacing an older store with a brand-new, modern facility.

A Direct Replacement with a Grand Opening

The existing Aldi on Sheaf Street, which has served the community for 15 years, will shut its doors for the final time on November 26. However, any disappointment will be short-lived, as the new Aldi at Abbey Retail Park is scheduled to open just one day later on November 27.

To mark the special occasion, the launch will be attended by Sarah Jones, a Team GB hockey star and Olympic bronze medallist. Store Manager Josh Edwards expressed his excitement, stating the company “can’t wait to open the doors to the new store in Daventry” and that having the Olympic hero present will make it “a morning to remember.”

More Than Just a New Look

The new store opening brings tangible benefits for the local community beyond a fresh shopping environment. The first 30 customers through the doors on launch day will be rewarded with a free bag of fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s popular Super 6 range.

Furthermore, the new location is part of a significant nationwide expansion. This Daventry branch is one of 16 new Aldi stores slated to open before the end of the Christmas period. Each new store is estimated to create approximately 40 new jobs, providing a welcome boost to local employment.

Aldi's Multi-Million Pound Growth Strategy

This rapid opening schedule is a key part of Aldi UK’s ambitious growth strategy. The supermarket is in the midst of a massive £650 million investment programme dedicated to store openings and refurbishments across the country.

Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, emphasised the company's mission, saying: “At Aldi, we’re focused on making affordable, high-quality food accessible to as many people as possible - and opening new stores is at the heart of how we do that.” He described the launch of 16 new stores in just over five weeks as a “significant milestone” and a clear demonstration of the company's pace and ambition.

For Daventry residents, this strategic move means uninterrupted access to Aldi's low prices, simply from a newer, more modern location.
