Marcus Rashford's future remains uncertain after Barcelona made a swift move for Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon, casting doubt on the La Liga champions' pursuit of the Manchester United forward.
Rashford's Loan Spell at Barcelona
The 28-year-old spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Barcelona, where he helped Hansi Flick's side win La Liga and regained his place in the England squad for the upcoming World Cup. Barcelona have an option to buy Rashford for £26m, with a deadline of June 15 to trigger the clause.
Barcelona's Transfer Plans
According to The i Paper, Barcelona view Gordon's £70m transfer as a separate situation and still have funds to finance a move for Rashford if desired. However, sources in Spain indicate that the club 'simply do not intend to come close' to the £26m figure, citing concerns over the player's age and wages. An offer of around £15m is considered more likely, if it even materialises.
Premier League Interest
Manchester United intend to move Rashford's contract, which has two years remaining, off their books. This could leave Rashford exploring other options, with Aston Villa among three Premier League clubs 'monitoring the situation'. Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are also named, with Spurs keen on his experience. Villa 'could also re-sign' the player who spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan with them.
Rashford's Gratitude
In a recent social media post, Rashford publicly thanked Unai Emery and Hansi Flick for helping him rediscover his form after his difficult time under Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.
