Parents across the UK are being urged to check their cupboards following an urgent product recall issued by retailer B&M. The discount chain has warned customers that specific batches of Aptamil and Kendamil baby formula might be out of date and therefore unsafe for infants.
Affected Products: What You Need to Check
The recall notice is specific to several product lines and codes. Customers are advised to look for the following items:
- Aptamil First Infant Milk Powder (800g) with product code 348054
- Aptamil Follow-On Milk (4x200ml) with product code 422087
- Kendamil Infant Milk (800g) with product code 422378
- Aptamil Follow-On Milk (700g) with product code 422056
- Kendamil First Milk (250ml) with product code 422381
The retailer has stated that these products contain milk from 8 October or earlier. Using out-of-date formula can be dangerous as it may have lost its essential nutrients and could pose a health risk to babies.
Immediate Action Required for Parents
B&M's advice to customers is clear and direct. Do not use the product if you have purchased any of the items listed above with an expiry date of 08/10 or before.
The company has instructed shoppers to return the product to your local store immediately, where they will be offered a full refund or a replacement. B&M has apologised for the inconvenience and is currently investigating how the error occurred.
For further assistance, customers can contact their local store team or call B&M Customer Services on 0330 838 9000.
Manufacturer and Retailer Response
Danone, the manufacturer behind the Aptamil brand, confirmed that its number one priority is product safety. A spokesperson for Danone UK & Ireland revealed that the company was made aware that out-of-date products were being discounted by B&M, which goes against its strict global policy.
This policy prohibits discounts on infant formula to ensure responsible marketing. Once notified, Danone contacted B&M, and the retailer immediately removed the out-of-date stock and any related marketing materials from sale.
B&M has assured the public that it is taking this matter extremely seriously and is cooperating fully to resolve the situation and prevent a recurrence.
