Claire's Accessories has permanently closed its remaining UK stores, resulting in the loss of approximately 1,000 jobs. The popular high street chain ceased trading on Monday, April 27, months after entering administration.
Final Closures and Redundancies
According to sources cited by The Guardian, employees at Claire's were instructed to gather remaining stock and equipment as the final branches shut down on Monday, April 28, following a series of closures in recent weeks. Administrators at Kroll confirmed that all standalone stores in the UK and Ireland stopped trading on Monday, with all store employees advised of redundancy.
A statement from Kroll read: "As of April 27, all Claire's standalone stores in UK and Ireland have ceased trading. All store employees have been advised of redundancy." It is understood that more than 100 shops were closed in this final round.
Concessions and European Stores Remain Open
Despite the closures, the chain's concessions and its European stores will continue to operate, according to the BBC. Claire's first entered administration in January 2026, just months after 154 UK stores were rescued in a deal with Modella Capital in August 2025. That deal saved around 1,300 jobs, but 145 locations not purchased by Modella were closed in November 2025.
Administration Details
In January, Kroll issued a statement regarding the appointment of administrators: "Philip Dakin, Benjamin Wiles and Janet Burt of Kroll Advisory Ltd were appointed as joint administrators of CAUKI Ltd on 26 January 2026. The company is continuing to trade during this period."
Earlier this month, BirminghamLive reported that the New Street branch had served customers for the final time. The Bullring branch was also earmarked for closure, marking the end of an era for a chain that had been a staple for generations of shoppers.

Claire's was founded in Chicago in 1961, but its head office was located in Erdington. The teen accessory retailer once had numerous branches across the region and was known for its affordable jewelry, ear piercing services, and trendy accessories.
