Claire's Accessories is planning a major UK comeback with the opening of 50 new stores as early as next month, following the closure of 154 shops. The locations of the new stores have not yet been revealed.
Planned Expansion
According to reports from The Guardian, the brand has received approval from its US owners, Ames Watson, to launch the new sites. Julien Jarjoura, the French entrepreneur behind jewellery company Une Ligne, commented: "A lot of people think Claire's is a British brand. It is extremely famous in the UK and there is no way it is going away." He added: "There will definitely be some brand repositioning. We are not a discount store but we like to sell stuff at a fair price."
Recent Closures
Claire's, which had locations in Birmingham, still retains a presence across Europe with 240 stores currently operating. However, on April 28, the brand closed its last remaining stores in the UK within hours, resulting in approximately 1,000 job losses. Administrators at Kroll confirmed that all stores stopped trading on Monday and that "all store employees have been advised of redundancy." A statement from Kroll read: "As of April 27, all Claire's standalone stores in UK and Ireland have ceased trading. All store employees have been advised of redundancy."
Administration History
Claire's collapsed into administration in January 2026, months after 154 stores in the UK were rescued in a deal with Modella Capital in August 2025. At that time, around 1,300 jobs were saved, but the 145 locations not purchased by Modella were closed in November 2025. In January 2026, Kroll issued a statement regarding the appointment of administrators: "Philip Dakin, Benjamin Wiles and Janet Burt of Kroll Advisory Ltd were appointed as joint administrators of CAUKI Ltd on 26 January 2026. The company is continuing to trade during this period."
Despite the recent setbacks, the planned reopening signals a new chapter for the brand in the UK.
