Poundland to Shutter Five More UK Stores This Month in Major Restructuring
Five Poundland Stores to Close in December

The discount retail chain Poundland is set to close five more of its shops across the United Kingdom during December, with significant closing-down sales now underway at several locations.

Store Closure Dates and Locations

The budget retailer has confirmed a series of imminent closures. The Melton Mowbray branch will shut its doors on Thursday, December 4, marking the first of this wave of closures. This will be followed by the Worthing store in West Sussex on Friday, December 6.

The Droitwich site is scheduled for closure on Monday, December 9. Finally, the branches located in Hempstead Valley and Brighton are both set to cease trading on Tuesday, December 31.

Major Discounts in Final Sales

In the lead-up to these closures, Poundland has launched substantial clearance events. The Worthing store is notably offering a 40 per cent discount on all stock as part of its closing-down sale. Reports indicate the sweeping discounts apply to the full range, including groceries, homeware, and health and beauty products.

The 'everything must go' sales will continue at the affected stores until they close for the final time.

Ongoing Restructuring Plan

These closures are part of a wider strategic restructuring for the retailer. The plan, initiated after Poundland was sold to Peach Bidco for a nominal sum, aims to reduce the overall estate from approximately 800 stores to between 650 and 700 locations.

This process is set to continue into the new year. For example, the Poundland store in Bexhill is forecast to close on January 5, with the Cameron Toll branch following on January 20.

However, it is not all negative news for the chain's footprint. As part of the same restructuring, six shops that were previously closed were successfully reopened last month. These saved locations include Perry Barr in Birmingham, as well as stores in Dundee, Livingston, Musselburgh, Porthcawl, and Andover.
