Homebase Rivals Tesco & Morrisons with Real Christmas Trees in 250+ Stores
Homebase sells real Christmas trees in The Range stores

The festive competition is heating up as home and garden retailer Homebase makes a major play for the Christmas tree market, directly challenging supermarket giants Tesco and Morrisons.

Homebase's Festive Expansion

More than 250 stores across the UK and Ireland are now stocking real Christmas trees as part of the 'Garden Centres by Homebase' initiative located within The Range outlets. This strategic partnership began rolling out at the start of the year, with numerous Birmingham locations among those now carrying Homebase's products.

The retailer is offering three distinct varieties of real Christmas trees as part of its brand-new 2025 line-up. Shoppers can choose between the Nordman Fir, known for its soft needles and excellent needle retention, the compact Fraser Fir with its fresh Christmas scent, and the Noble Fir, which features strong branches and blue-green needles, though this variety is available in Republic of Ireland locations only.

Sustainable and Premium Quality

Homebase has emphasised that all its Christmas trees are sustainably grown in the UK and are of premium grade. In a recent Facebook announcement, the company addressed concerns about potential shortages, stating: "Forget the headlines about tree shortages – we've got forests of festive joy ready for you!"

Prices for these premium trees start from £19.99, and the retailer also offers tree stands and accessories to help customers display their chosen tree throughout the festive season. The initiative brings over 45 years of gardening expertise to The Range stores during the crucial Christmas shopping period.

Supermarket Christmas Tree Wars

Homebase's move places it in direct competition with major supermarkets who are also battling for Christmas tree sales. Tesco is currently offering Clubcard users the chance to purchase a real Christmas tree for just £20, reduced from £40. This deal includes five to six feet tall Nordman Fir trees, though the promotion ends on December 14 or when stocks run out.

Meanwhile, Morrisons is running a similar promotion where customers with a More Card can secure a 6ft Christmas tree for only £10, down from the usual £20 price point. This offer is also available for a limited time only, intensifying the festive retail competition.

As retailers compete for customer spending during the crucial Christmas trading period, the availability of premium, sustainably grown Christmas trees at competitive prices has become a key battleground, with Homebase now firmly established as a serious contender against the traditional supermarket giants.
