Shoppers across the UK have a chance to bag some free vegetables from Lidl just in time for the festive season, simply by using their smartphone.
How to claim your free vegetables
The popular discount supermarket is running a promotion where customers can receive a complimentary vegetable item on their next visit. The offer is activated through the Lidl Plus app, which is available for free download.
To claim the deal, customers need to create an account on the app, scroll down to the section promoting the free bag, and activate the offer. When they subsequently scan their app at the checkout, the system automatically deducts the cost of the cheapest eligible vegetable item in their trolley.
Shoppers share their success
The promotion has generated excitement on social media, particularly in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group. One member posted a photo of their haul with the caption: “Spud u like my free bag in Lidl today.”
Other users quickly confirmed they had also benefited from the offer. “Yes, I got my free bag on Sunday. Didn’t opt for spuds tho,” wrote another customer. A third simply stated: “Got mine yesterday too, can’t beat them.”
A warning about fake Lidl adverts
This genuine offer comes with a crucial warning for consumers to be vigilant against scams. Recent fraudulent adverts have been duping people by falsely promoting deals on premium products like coffee machines and electric bikes under the Lidl brand.
These scam ads, often seen on platforms like Facebook and Instagram, direct users to fake websites that have no affiliation with Lidl. An investigation by the consumer group Which? confirmed the dangers, with one followed link leading to a suspicious site.
The financial impact of such scams is significant. Recent data from UK Finance revealed that approximately £53 million was lost to purchase scams in the first half of 2025 alone.
This is not the first time Lidl's name has been used by scammers. Last year, a similar scheme offered 'mystery boxes,' which tricked victims and resulted in some people having nearly £200 taken from their bank accounts through multiple unauthorized transactions.
Shoppers are advised to be cautious on social media and only trust offers that are directly accessible through the official Lidl Plus app or the company's verified website.
