Matalan Recalls Children's Clothes Over Safety Fears
Matalan recalls children's clothes over safety risk

High street retailer Matalan has been forced to issue an emergency product recall for several popular children's clothing items after safety officials identified potential injury risks.

Which Products Are Affected?

The recall affects seven specific children's garments that were sold in Matalan stores. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) found that these items present a safety hazard due to poorly fitted poppers with rough edges that could cause cuts or scrapes to infants.

The affected products include:

  • Floral Jersey Romper
  • Unisex Bear Quilted Romper
  • Unisex Bear Quilted Sweat Set
  • Quilted Crew Sweat and Jog Grey
  • Herringbone Dungarees in Beige
  • Bear 3D Jersey Dungarees
  • Print Dungarees & Tee in Oatmeal

What Safety Issues Were Found?

Safety regulators determined that the clothing items fail to meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005. The primary concern centres around metal poppers that have been incorrectly fitted, creating sharp edges that pose a cutting risk to young children.

In their official recall notice, Matalan stated: "It has come to our attention that the above dungarees do not meet our usual high standards for quality and safety, as there is risk that poppers have been incorrectly fitted and could cause injury."

What Should Customers Do?

Consumers who have purchased any of the affected items are urged to stop using the products immediately and return them to their nearest Matalan store for a full refund.

The retailer has confirmed that customers do not need to provide a receipt to claim their refund. Matalan has also requested that anyone who purchased these items as gifts for others should notify the recipients about the safety recall.

For additional information or queries, affected customers can contact Matalan directly on 0333 0044444 or email customercareceo@matalan.co.uk.

The company emphasised that this recall only affects the seven specified products and no other Matalan items are involved. They have apologised for any inconvenience caused and reassured customers that customer safety remains their highest priority.
