McDonald's Removes Popular Menu Items, Customers Call It 'Huge Mistake'
McDonald's Scraps Popular Menu Items, Customers Fume

McDonald's customers are expressing frustration and disappointment as the fast-food giant removes several popular menu items in a significant shake-up. The decision to scrap what many considered "healthier" favourites has led to warnings from customers that it's a "huge mistake."

Items Being Phased Out

From April 27, McDonald's will no longer offer a range of beloved items. Customers will lose access to wraps with tikka chicken, sweet chilli chicken, BBQ chicken and bacon, as well as chicken and bacon salads and chicken salads. Other items being discontinued include:

  • Sausage and egg McGriddle
  • Double Big Macs
  • Cheesy garlic bread dippers and the cheesy garlic bread dippers sharebox
  • Mini egg McFlurry and creme egg McFlurry
  • Iced latte

Customer Backlash

One customer voiced their disappointment to the Sun newspaper, stating, "Grilled chicken was my favourite food, it made me feel like I was eating healthily, despite being in McDonald's. I can't be the only one thinking that this is a huge mistake. I'll be off to Subway." This sentiment reflects broader concerns among patrons who valued these options for their perceived healthier profile.

McDonald's has acknowledged the potential disappointment, with a spokesperson saying, "We understand this may be disappointing for some." However, the company is moving forward with its menu overhaul, which includes the introduction of new items.

New Menu Additions

In place of the removed items, McDonald's is launching a "range of exciting breakfast items" and other new offerings. Key highlights include a revamp of the iconic Sausage and Egg McMuffin, now available with Frank's Red Hot Ketchup for an added spicy kick. The new menu items, set to debut on April 27, are:

Looking Ahead

While McDonald's aims to refresh its menu with these new additions, the removal of long-standing favourites has clearly struck a chord with customers. The company's strategy to introduce spicier breakfast options and diverse McFlurry flavours may attract new patrons, but it remains to be seen if this will offset the loss of loyal customers who cherished the discontinued items.

The menu changes highlight the ongoing evolution in the fast-food industry, where chains balance innovation with customer preferences. As McDonald's rolls out these updates, feedback from the public will be crucial in shaping future decisions.
