M&S Closes Another Café Amid Expansion of Food Range

Marks & Spencer Announces Further Café Closure in Congleton

Marks & Spencer has confirmed another café closure as part of a broader wave of shutdowns across the United Kingdom. The latest location set to close is the M&S café situated on Barn Road in Congleton, Cheshire. This move aligns with the supermarket chain's strategic initiative to expand its M&S Food offering, with the café space being repurposed to accommodate a wider selection of products.

Strategic Shift Towards Enhanced Food Retail

While an exact closure date has not been specified, M&S has also announced that the café inside its foodhall store in Westbridge Park, Stone, Staffordshire, will shut down. This decision reflects the company's ongoing efforts to modernise its food business and improve the shopping experience for customers.

Katie Whelan, Regional Manager at M&S, commented on the Congleton closure, stating, "We recognise that many of our customers desire access to a broader range of M&S Food. Consequently, following a review of our Congleton store, we are converting the café area to provide increased product variety and enhance the overall shopping journey. We acknowledge this may disappoint some customers, but our teams remain committed to delivering excellent service in-store."

David Hughes, another Regional Manager at M&S, added, "As we strive to modernise our food operations and make the best of M&S Food more accessible to a larger audience, we are investing significantly in our store estate."
