M&S opens 100,000sq ft flagship at Merry Hill

Shoppers in the West Midlands are celebrating a major retail milestone as Marks & Spencer officially unveils its fully transformed flagship store at the Merry Hill shopping centre.

A Grand Opening for a New Era

The ribbon was cut on the new, expansive 100,000 square foot space on Thursday, November 27. The honour was given to two long-serving employees: Tracy Halford, who has dedicated 40 years to the company, and Yvonna Chatwin

This grand opening marks the completion of a significant redevelopment that has been rolling out in phases. The store now seamlessly combines four previously separate units into one vast shopping destination.

What Shoppers Will Find Inside

The newly configured store brings everything under one roof for a comprehensive retail experience. The offering includes:

  • A market-style food hall, which is now a substantial 27% larger than its previous incarnation.
  • Full ranges of fashion, including womenswear, kidswear, and, for the first time since the transformation began, a dedicated menswear section.
  • An extensive homeware department.
  • A beauty section and an in-store coffee shop.
  • A brand-new Christmas gift shop, perfectly timed for the festive season.

Part of a National Strategy and Local Transformation

This substantial investment at Merry Hill is a key part of M&S's national store renewal programme. The retailer has confirmed it has renewed 12 of its UK shops this year, alongside opening 16 new branches and extending nine others.

Tom Hawthorne, the store manager at M&S Merry Hill, expressed his delight, stating the full transformation allows customers to enjoy an even better shopping experience. He also thanked the local community for their brilliant response and the team for their support throughout the journey.

Echoing this sentiment, Jonathan Poole, centre manager for Merry Hill, highlighted the store's importance as a key piece in the continued transformation of the centre. He noted that M&S has made a long-term commitment to Merry Hill, having first opened a store there 35 years ago.

The store's opening hours are 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm on Saturday, and 11am to 5pm on Sunday. For the busy Christmas period, hours will extend to 8am until 9pm Monday to Friday and 8am until 8pm on Saturdays.
