Marks & Spencer Unveils Plans for New Megastore in Northwich Hotspot
Marks & Spencer has revealed ambitious proposals for a brand new megastore in the UK hotspot of Northwich, Cheshire. This major development comes six years after the closure of the previous M&S store in the town centre, which had been a local fixture since 1908, leaving many residents disappointed.
Details of the Proposed Megastore
The grocer's plans feature a giant 18,000 square foot Foodhall, designed to be a best-in-class retail experience for shoppers. Key elements of the store will include an in-store bakery, dedicated flower and wine shops, and a click and collect facility to enhance convenience for customers.
Under the current proposals, the store is set to have opening hours from 8am to 9pm Monday through Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays. Additionally, a large car park with 157 spaces is planned to accommodate visitors, making access easier for those driving to the location.
Economic Impact and Community Benefits
The development is expected to create approximately 70 new jobs, providing a significant boost to the local economy. David Hughes, the regional manager for M&S, expressed excitement about the return to Northwich, stating that the store would be one of the most modern in the UK, offering high-quality fresh produce and the latest product launches.
Mark Rothery, managing director of developer Rothstone Estates, highlighted this as an opportunity to bring a high-quality, modern retail use back to the heart of the town, aiming to give local residents more choice and enhance the shopping experience.
Next Steps and Public Feedback
M&S has announced that it plans to submit planning applications to Cheshire West & Chester Council in the coming weeks. In the meantime, the supermarket has opened a feedback form for residents to voice their opinions on the proposal, encouraging community input to shape the final plans.
This development marks a significant step in revitalising Northwich's retail landscape, promising to combine modern amenities with the trusted quality that Marks & Spencer is known for.
