Popular UK pie company Pieminister has announced a temporary shutdown of its online shop in the lead-up to Black Friday, a bold move designed to tackle delivery disruptions and combat food waste.
Proactive Measures Following Past Problems
The Bristol-founded chain confirmed its digital storefront will be closed from Wednesday, November 19, to Wednesday, November 26. This decision comes directly from the 'immense pressure' placed on courier services during last year's Black Friday sales surge, which resulted in some customer orders 'going astray or being severely delayed'.
In a communication to customers, the business stated: 'As a business committed to eradicating edible food waste... that’s the last thing we want to see. So, we’re taking proactive steps to prevent it from happening again.'
Ordering Details and Christmas Plans
While the online shop will be inaccessible for new orders during the closure period, Pieminister has clarified that customers can still place orders. However, any purchases made on or after November 19 will not be dispatched until Tuesday, December 2.
The company reassured fans that the shop will reopen immediately after the short break, giving everyone 'plenty of time to stock up on your favourites - including our festive specials - in good time for Christmas'.
A Brand with Purpose and Accolades
Founded in 2003 in Bristol's Stokes Croft by Tristan Hogg and Jon Simon, Pieminister began with a mission to revitalise the British pie. The brand, which now employs hundreds across the UK, has a strong track record of charitable initiatives.
In previous years, the company has transformed Black Friday into 'Black Pieday', raising funds for homelessness charity Shelter by giving away pies in return for donations. Their latest impact report reveals they have donated 270,113 pies and raised more than £36,000 for charitable causes over the past five years.
The company also continues to excel in its field, with its new Chana Rama Pie winning best vegan pie at the British Pie Awards 2025, beating competition from over 30 other entrants.
