High streets across Britain are set to suffer another significant blow as discount retailer Poundland confirms plans to close a further 10 stores.
The Final Phase of Restructuring
This latest wave of closures marks the completion of a major company-wide restructuring initiated after Poundland's acquisition by investment firm Gordon Brothers. The programme has already seen substantial changes to the retailer's footprint.
Earlier this year, Poundland announced plans to close 68 locations and two warehouses across the UK, a move that placed approximately 1,300 jobs at risk. The main store closure programme was largely completed in September, with 57 stores shutting their doors, while 11 closures were temporarily placed on hold.
Saying Goodbye with Significant Savings
A Poundland spokesperson confirmed that customers at the affected stores can expect major discounts as stock is cleared. "Customers will be able to take advantage of significant savings as these stores prepare for closure in the days ahead," they stated.
The reductions, offering up to 40 per cent off, will apply to all stock until items are sold. This includes everything from homewares and groceries to clothing and health and beauty products.
Darren MacDonald, Poundland’s UK country manager, expressed the company's sentiment regarding the closures. "We know how disappointing it is when we leave a store, but before we close our doors for a final time, we’re determined to say goodbye by offering even more amazing value to customers," he shared.
He added that the special reductions, on top of the retailer's everyday value, would help the company "leave locations we’re leaving with pride." MacDonald also emphasised that despite these closures, Poundland looks forward to "welcoming customers to one of the hundreds of Poundland stores we’ll continue to operate right across the UK."
