Primark Announces New Store in Former Debenhams Location at Trinity Walk

Primark has officially revealed plans to open a new store in the United Kingdom, specifically at Trinity Walk in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. This significant move will see the retailer occupying the space that was once home to Debenhams, marking a revitalization of a key retail unit in the city center.

Relocation from The Ridings Shopping Centre

The new Primark location represents a strategic shift from its previous site at The Ridings Shopping Centre in Wakefield. All 70 employees from the existing store are expected to transition to the new facility, ensuring continuity for both staff and customers. This relocation underscores Primark's commitment to maintaining a strong presence in Wakefield, where it first established itself in 1994.

Conor Walsh, Primark's director of sales for the North East, expressed enthusiasm about the move, stating, "Our new location at Trinity Walk keeps us in the centre of Wakefield, which has been an important part of our history on the UK high street since we first opened our doors here in 1994. We're progressing with the construction of our new store and works are expected to begin imminently, which we're all excited to see."

Boosting Wakefield's Retail Landscape

James White, centre manager of Trinity Walk, highlighted the positive impact of Primark's arrival. "It is fantastic to see Primark choose to join Trinity Walk and they will be one of our biggest signings to date," he said. "Thanks to Primark, and of course the exciting Tenpin entertainment centre, the whole of the former Debenhams unit will be brought back to life – which will no doubt attract many new visitors to Wakefield while providing for our loyal, existing audience."

White further emphasized the significance of retaining major brands like Primark, noting that it builds on the momentum of over 20 other prominent retailers that have joined Trinity Walk in the past four years. This move is seen as a key step in enhancing Wakefield's appeal as a shopping destination.

Construction and Opening Details

While construction is set to commence shortly, an exact opening date for the new Primark store has not yet been confirmed. The development is part of broader efforts to rejuvenate the retail sector in Wakefield, leveraging the prime location once occupied by Debenhams to draw increased foot traffic and economic activity to the area.

This announcement follows a trend of businesses adapting to changing high street dynamics, with Primark's expansion reflecting confidence in Wakefield's retail market. The store's relocation is anticipated to contribute significantly to the local economy and community, offering enhanced shopping experiences for residents and visitors alike.
