Tamworth Cafe Pleads: 'Buy the Cheapest Thing' as Costs Rise
Tamworth Cafe Pleads: Buy Cheapest Item as Costs Rise

A cafe in Tamworth, West Midlands, has issued an urgent plea to customers: 'Please buy something, even if it's the cheapest thing on the menu.' The Book Nook Bakery & Coffee Shop, located on Bolebridge Mews, is a haven for book lovers who often spend hours reading. However, owner Jennie Martin has noticed that many patrons use the space without making any purchase.

Owner's Appeal

In a social media post, Martin explained: 'May seem like an odd request, but can I ask if you're coming in to the shop to sit for a fair period of time, to work/study or just wait for friends before moving on to somewhere else, please buy something even if it's the cheapest thing.' She emphasized that drinks start from just £2, books from £1, and a biscuit costs £2.50. 'I have poured my everything into the shop and hope to keep my prices lower for as long as possible despite myself, but I can't afford to keep up with the many bills if people use the space for longer periods without spending anything,' she added.

Rising Costs

With the cost of running the business soaring, Martin said she 'can't afford to keep up' with bills if the trend continues. The cafe, which combines a bakery and coffee shop with a bookish atmosphere, is a popular spot for relaxation and study. The owner hopes that customers will understand the importance of supporting local businesses during these challenging economic times.
