In a significant boost for the Welsh tech sector, Veeqo, a fast-growing venture owned by e-commerce titan Amazon, has officially opened its new global headquarters in the heart of Swansea.
The company has taken 14,000 sq ft of prime office space within the city's flagship 71/72 Kingsway development, a project spearheaded by Swansea Council and part-funded by the Swansea Bay City Deal.
A Rapidly Expanding Tech Powerhouse
Since its acquisition by Amazon in 2021, Veeqo has experienced remarkable growth, tripling its global headcount from 60 to over 200 in just three years. Approximately half of this workforce is now based at the new Swansea HQ.
The firm provides free shipping and inventory management software used by more than 100,000 businesses worldwide, helping them streamline order fulfilment across multiple sales channels and manage stock efficiently.
Amazon has already invested more than £60 million in its Swansea development centre, which houses Veeqo. The company has committed to a further £100 million-plus investment through to 2032, bringing the total planned spend to over £150 million in a decade.
Nurturing Talent and Driving Economic Growth
Veeqo's expansion is creating a wealth of high-skilled roles in the region, including positions for software development engineers, UX designers, technical product managers, and business analysts.
The company maintains strong links with local academia, offering placements for students from Swansea University and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. It currently supports 16 apprentices and 10 graduate interns.
Matt Warren, Veeqo's founder and CEO, stated: "Our expanded office in Swansea enables us to continue building services which make it easier for entrepreneurs and businesses to sell around the world. I’m proud that we’ve continued creating highly skilled tech jobs in Wales."
Confidence in Swansea's Future
The move into 71/72 Kingsway is seen as a major vote of confidence in the city. The 100,000 sq ft building, designed to attract tech and creative firms, is moving towards full occupancy, with several other lettings pending.
John Boumphrey, Amazon's UK country manager, said: "This new headquarters represents our long-term commitment to Wales, and I’m excited to see what Veeqo will build next."
Pension Minister and Swansea West MP Torsten Bell, who opened the new office, hailed Veeqo as "a true Welsh success story" and evidence of the high-value, technology-driven growth flourishing in Wales.
Rob Lewis, Leader of Swansea Council, welcomed Veeqo as the latest tenant, predicting the development would eventually host up to 600 workers and increase vital footfall for city centre traders.
The expansion underscores Wales's growing reputation as a hub for innovation and forms part of Amazon's wider £40 billion investment plan across the UK.
