South Devon Community Smashes Rowcroft Hospice's Every Moment Matters Appeal

The residents of South Devon have demonstrated exceptional generosity and solidarity in support of Rowcroft Hospice's Every Moment Matters Appeal. This ambitious matched-funding initiative called upon the local community to unite and help raise £200,000 within a mere 36 hours – a challenge that was met with overwhelming enthusiasm and success.

Remarkable Fundraising Achievement

Thanks to the generous match-funding commitments from local businesses, community groups, and individual supporters, every single donation made during the appeal period was effectively doubled. This collective effort resulted in a staggering total of more than £211,000 being raised, far exceeding the original target. Every social media share, every conversation, and every contribution played a crucial role in achieving this remarkable financial milestone.

"We are completely overwhelmed by the response," expressed Alison Upton, a representative from Rowcroft Hospice. "To witness our community come together in this manner – donating, sharing, fundraising, and cheering us on – has been incredibly moving. Every single gift, regardless of its size, signifies someone choosing to support local families during one of the most challenging periods of their lives. The incredible funds raised will make a real and immediate impact, enabling us to continue providing specialist care and support to individuals across South Devon when every moment truly matters."

Top Fundraisers and Community Champions

The appeal's designated 'Champion' fundraisers went to extraordinary lengths to ensure the campaign's success, dedicating immense effort to promote the appeal extensively. The top six fundraisers who led the charge were:

  • Rowcroft’s Hospice at Home Team (£25,709)
  • Rowcroft volunteer Jane Watson (£15,687)
  • Ipplepen Cricket Club (£10,567)
  • Torbay Business Forum (£8,296)
  • Rowcroft supporter Kate Holmes (£7,292)
  • Rowcroft volunteer Di Feasby (£6,782)

Sustaining Vital Hospice Services

The funds generated through this appeal will be instrumental in allowing Rowcroft Hospice to maintain its essential care services, which include the inpatient unit, community team, and the Hospice at Home service. It is important to note that only approximately a quarter of Rowcroft's funding is sourced from the NHS, making the generosity of the local community absolutely critical for the sustainability of its vital end-of-life and palliative care programs.

Alison Upton further emphasized, "This appeal has vividly illustrated just how much hospice care means to the people of South Devon. We simply could not carry out our work without the unwavering support of our brilliant local community."
