Furniture Traders in Thirsk Launches Charity Sale for Teenage Cancer Trust
Furniture Traders, a long-standing business in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, is hosting a special event to support the Teenage Cancer Trust. This initiative coincides with co-owner Josh's preparation for the 2026 TCS London Marathon, aiming to raise funds for the charity.
Community-Focused Fundraising Efforts
The shop, which has been a staple of the North Yorkshire community for nearly two decades, plans to donate 10% of all sale profits to the Teenage Cancer Trust. Josh has set a personal fundraising target of £5,000 before he tackles the famous 26.2-mile marathon course in London. To encourage community participation, local shoppers can enjoy discounts of 20% on all furniture and up to 75% off clearance items during the event, which runs from March 23 to April 6.
Personal Motivation Behind the Cause
The Teenage Cancer Trust holds deep personal significance for Josh due to a heartfelt experience involving his best friend. In 2015, his friend was diagnosed with leukaemia and received life-saving treatment over seven months on a specialist ward at St James's Hospital in Leeds, supported by the charity. Josh shared, "Teenage Cancer Trust means a huge amount to me personally. When my best friend was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2015, he spent seven months being treated on the Teenage Cancer Trust ward in Leeds. The care and support he received there saved his life." After going into remission, his friend has since pursued incredible physical challenges, inspiring Josh and his brother Jake to use their family business to give back.
Supporting Vital Charity Work
Furniture Traders was originally founded in 2006 by Steve and Colette and remains a proud Yorkshire-run establishment today. The Teenage Cancer Trust relies on donations to fund expert nurses, hospital units, and dedicated support teams across the UK. Harriet Durban, a manager at the charity, expressed gratitude for the local support, stating, "Cancer is tough. But Teenage Cancer Trust's work puts young people in the best possible place, physically, mentally and emotionally, for their cancer treatment and beyond. We do that by funding expert nurses, support teams, and hospital units. And we're the only UK charity dedicated to providing this specialist nursing. But we're dependent on donations for this work, which is why we're so very grateful to Josh for choosing to take on the 2026 TCS London Marathon and fundraise for Teenage Cancer Trust."
By shopping at the Thirsk store during the sale dates, customers can directly contribute to this vital fundraising effort, helping support young people and their families facing cancer.
