Banned Driver 'Ran Out of Talent' in Police Chase

A banned motorist who led police on a high-speed chase through Chesterfield has been jailed after he 'ran out of talent' and crashed into a bush.

Details of the Pursuit

Jack Cartwright, 22, was spotted by officers in a marked police car on Malson Way at 10.10am on December 12 last year. The grey VW Golf he was driving 'suddenly drove off at speed', prompting a pursuit through the town.

Cartwright reached speeds of more than 50mph in a 30mph zone, overtaking vehicles on the wrong side of the road and tailgating drivers in an attempt to force them to move out of his way.

Crash and Arrest

Derbyshire Constabulary said the disqualified driver 'ran out of talent' as he tried to avoid a line of traffic, instead driving 'straight into a bush'. The car door was jammed shut, forcing Cartwright to wriggle out through the open window. He was quickly detained by an officer after a short foot chase.

Charges and Sentencing

Cartwright was charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance. He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to three years in prison at Derby Crown Court.
