Crime Figures Show Positive Trend
New crime statistics for Bridgnorth Road indicate a 15% reduction in reported offences compared to the previous year, according to data released by West Mercia Police. The figures, covering the 12 months to March 2024, show a total of 85 incidents, down from 100 in the prior period.
Breakdown of Offences
Violent crime saw the most significant decrease, falling by 20% from 30 to 24 cases. Burglaries dropped by 10%, with 18 reported compared to 20. Vehicle crime remained stable at 12 incidents, while anti-social behaviour decreased by 25% from 16 to 12 cases. The data also shows a slight increase in theft from shops, rising from 5 to 7 incidents.
Police Response
Inspector Mark Roberts of West Mercia Police said: “We are pleased to see a reduction in crime along Bridgnorth Road, which reflects the hard work of our officers and the support of the local community. We will continue to target resources to ensure this positive trend continues.”
Community Impact
Local residents have expressed cautious optimism. John Davies, chair of the Bridgnorth Road Neighbourhood Watch, commented: “These statistics are encouraging, but we remain vigilant. Community policing and engagement are key to sustaining this progress.”
Future Plans
West Mercia Police plans to maintain patrols and increase community engagement initiatives. The force is also working with the local council to improve street lighting and CCTV coverage in the area, aiming to further deter criminal activity.
