Drink Driver Sentenced to Over a Decade in Prison for Fatal High-Speed Crash
A drink driver who killed his friend in a horrific high-speed crash while "showing off" in his BMW has been jailed for ten-and-a-half years. Mariusz Kosinski, 37, was filmed driving at 80mph before losing control and flipping his car on the A46 in Evesham on July 27, 2024. His friend Pawel Czubacki, 40, died at the scene from the injuries sustained in the devastating accident.
Dashcam Footage Reveals Chilling Details of the Fatal Incident
The dashcam footage recovered from Kosinski's vehicle captured the entire sequence of events leading up to the fatal smash. It showed him overtaking 14 cars and two motorbikes in a reckless manner just moments before the crash occurred. After the vehicle flipped, the footage recorded Kosinski screaming "I killed the dude!" upon realizing his passenger had perished in the collision.
Breathalyser tests conducted after the incident revealed Kosinski had 80 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath – more than twice the legal limit of 35 micrograms. This excessive alcohol consumption significantly impaired his driving abilities and judgment on the road.
Court Proceedings and Judicial Remarks
At Worcester Crown Court, Kosinski was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving. Judge Nicholas Cartwright delivered a stern rebuke during sentencing, stating that Kosinski had deliberately ignored road rules while "showing off" and demonstrated a complete disregard for the safety of other road users. In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Cartwright banned Kosinski from driving for 13 years following his release from custody.
Detective Constable Danny Somner commented on the case, emphasizing the evident danger in Kosinski's driving behavior. "The footage recovered from Kosinski's dashcam showed his usual driving was risky and dangerous, so it is right he is behind bars," Somner stated, underscoring the appropriateness of the substantial prison term.
