A man from Solihull has been branded a 'sexual predator' and jailed for 12 years after being convicted of raping two young women in a hotel room and attacking a third victim following a drink spiking.
Dangerous Offender Faces Extended Sentence
Philip Duffield, aged 25, of Grosvenor Road, Solihull, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. He was found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of assault by penetration against three separate women in 2024.
Judge Heidi Kubik KC classified Duffield as a 'dangerous offender', ordering him to serve an extended licence period of three years upon his release. He is expected to serve around eight years – two-thirds of his sentence – before being considered for parole.
Passing sentence, Judge Kubik told Duffield: "You remain unrepentant with a total lack of insight into the impact of your actions on the women concerned and a total lack of insight into your own wrong-doing."
A Trail of Attacks in 2024
The court heard how Duffield's crimes began in April 2024. He met an 18-year-old girl and a 20-year-old woman at a Wetherspoon's pub in Shrewsbury before taking them to a Holiday Inn hotel.
Both victims were described as being semi-conscious and 'extremely intoxicated' when Duffield raped them. One of the women reported the attacks to police shortly afterwards.
Duffield was arrested and released on bail, but in December 2024 he attacked a third woman in Birmingham. After a night out at Glamorous nightclub, they returned to his home where he spiked her drink and sexually assaulted her.
University Graduate with 'Good Job'
Prosecutors described Duffield's actions as those of a predator. The court was told he had no previous convictions, was a university graduate, and was in a 'good job earning a significant amount of money'.
His defence barrister argued he was 'sexually immature', but this was rejected by the court. Duffield had claimed all sexual contact was consensual, but a jury unanimously found him guilty on all counts following a trial.
West Midlands Police have released Duffield's custody image following the sentencing. The force emphasised the seriousness of the offences and the dangerous nature of the offender, who showed no remorse for his actions.
