Knife seized in Wolverhampton, teenager arrested

A 17-year-old teenager was arrested after a knife was seized in Wolverhampton city centre. The incident occurred when West Midlands Police's Guardian Project team spotted suspicious activity near Railway Street at just after 1pm on June 23.

Arrest and knife recovery

On approaching the individuals, a young man made off from officers but was soon detained in Chubb Street. During a search, a large kitchen knife was recovered. The 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possessing a blade.

Bail and next steps

He has been interviewed and bailed for a Youth Offending Panel to review options, including interventions, restorative justice elements, reparation work, and court proceedings.

Guardian Taskforce patrols

The Guardian Taskforce patrols involve uniformed and plain clothes officers conducting regular deployments across Wolverhampton and the wider West Midlands area. The patrol aims to take weapons off the streets through weapon sweeps, stop and search, knife arches, retailer checks, and test purchasing.

Anyone with information about someone carrying a weapon can call police on 101 or report anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
